TipTap: Personality-Driven Social Networking

By Jaz Hill on September 11, 2012

If Tumblr, Pinterest, and Facebook amalgamated, the result would likely be TipTap. Among the mass of social networking, TipTap sets itself apart as “the first personality-driven social discovery site.”

In the vein of Facebook’s ‘friend suggestions’, TipTap recommends people similar to you. It goes about this by the quizzes you take.

Quizzes on topics such as smarts, fashion, and environmental friendliness determine facets of your personality. With that information, TipTap generates a number of people similar to you in amount by percentages.

Much like Tumblr, TipTap allows you to “follow” people recommended by similarity. Those people, or “matches,” have their own TipTap space akin to a microblog—à la Tumblr.

TipTap also has a dashboard interface where options are available such as: upload a picture via web or hard-drive, share video, music, links, quotes or texts.

You can “retap” others’ “taps” like that of “reblogging” or “re-pining.” Sound familiar? Search for and invite friends through a TipTap invitation.

The social network’s manifestation is a mixture of Pinterest’s pinboard-style and a Tumblr blog; images and media stacked upon one another and expanding by continuous pages.

As you would browse Pinboards for inspiration and shared hobbies, you’d browse other people’s “Taps” for shared interests and perspectives.

Aside from the personality/psychological bend, TipTap hosts contests that included cash prizes—CASH prizes. The free t-shirt for participating in contests is cool too. But…back to the cash prizes. Enough of a motive to join, yet?

The quizzes of TipTap are fun and interesting. They’re visually-driven, which is great for low attention spans and a better representation of the multiple choices.

This site takes the awesomeness of the fun little personality quizzes from teen magazines up a level. It offers insight on preferences, behavior, and all the aspects that comprise personality.

Within the TipTap community there are 16 personality types in the vein of Myers Briggs personality theories. This would be great for psych majors and folks enthused by psychology altogether.

Plenty social networking sites bring people together with various intentions: school, interests, organizations, etc. TipTap aims to connect people by “personality, tastes, and style” and ultimately bring together a community of “like-minded people.”

Check it out and discover your personality and others like you.
