Why American Horror Story is Doing Everything Right This Season
We’ve all been waiting for it, and it’ll be here October 7th: the return of the infamous “American Horror Story”. I won’t even lie to you, I was one of the skeptical ones who refused to believe that FX could produce anything relevant. I mean, when was the last time you heard of anything to watch on that channel? I also had the horrible feeling that Ryan Murphy would never be able to move past show tunes and high school drama, with his other hit series, “Glee”. They’ve managed not only to prove us wrong the past four seasons with incredibly dynamic characters and perverse settings, but have managed to gain a cult following of the series. From “Murder House” to “Freakshow”, they’ve managed to keep horror interesting and original, with seemingly never-ending nightmare inducing ideas.
Season Five is especially one to look forward to, with the announcement of Lady Gaga starring in the show. Upon hearing this, I knew one of two things could happen. They would either focus completely on her and milk her fame and audience to drive up views and ratings, or they would keep her simmering on the backburner and continue to focus solely on the plot and other aesthetics. What ended up happening surprised me the most, and now genuinely makes me even more excited to watch this season, even knowing such a big name is among the cast. The various promotional videos that have been released give us a glimpse inside of the Hotel that makes the Inn from “The Shining” look like a children’s playground. Hands reaching from inside bed mattresses, victorian era dresses and haunting figures stalking the halls. Lady Gaga though appearing in many of the promotional videos., stuns with her simplicity and brief appearances, slaying in every crystal-embedded garment she wears. With some of the best camerawork combined with outstanding makeup and visuals, it’s going to be a season that’s sure to leave us begging for more.
Knowing Murphy’s musical background with the production of “Glee” and with past guests such as Stevie Nicks, it makes me wonder if we have a possible musical performance from Lady Gaga to look forward to. Thinking back to her “Fame Monster” days, Lady Gaga had done a performance of “Bad Romance” on the show “Gossip Girl”, helping to promote her new single. With the release of her new album looming in the not so distant future, we may have a new single to look forward to along with a visually stunning, horrifying series. Overall, with an incredible cast, the possibility of new music from Lady Gaga, and a Hotel straight from hell, it’s going to be an intense season.
