Dismaland: The Banksy Way to Ruin Your Childhood
Have you ever wanted to take a vacation to Disneyland? Well, why go there when you can go to Dismaland! Dismaland is a gigantic art project created by a several artists, including the infamous street artist Banksy. The entire project is built over the Tropicana swimming pool in the English resort town of Weston-super-mare. Dismaland has been described as a “family theme park unsuitable of kids.”
Instead of the happy giddy feeling you get while running through Disneyland, Dismaland is designed to make you feel shocked and afraid of what you are seeing. The park has several disturbing sculptures and pictures including one of a disfigured Ariel and of an old lady being attacked by seagulls for her bread. The park has a haunting feeling to it, since everything you see seems to be rusted and decrepit. The workers there are dressed in black and pink, and they all have a forlorn look to their face.
Here are some pictures that have been taken of the park:
Juxtaposing a childhood ride with a hazmat suit
Seagulls attacking a lady giving them bread
Statement on how Seaworld may or may not be working these animals to death
A play on “it’s a small world” ride in Disneyworld
A play on the modern day paparazzi
When we take selfies we usually take it to show people the exciting thing we are doing at that moment. This art piece shows a blank space beside your head. You are literally taking a selfie of nothing.
Instead of the happy feeling you get when you visit Disneyland, you get a sad lonely feeling when you visit Dismaland.
So, would you visit Dismaland?
